From the Ashes.....
I think all Americans love a great success story. 2009-2010 has been a rocky road for American car makers.
The Chrysler Corporation has had, let's say two near death experiences.
I started with Chrysler in the late 80's. It was K-cars and Mini Vans. They were the savior of this company. Let's not forget the man behind the plan Lee Iaccoca. I have followed that man for the last 25 years. He is a personal hero of mine. He is a brilliant leader and a visionary. He inspired consumers and a Nation to stand behind the Chrysler Corporation, not only to save Chrysler but to save our Nation from the collapse of the auto industry.
I often wonder where have all the good guys gone? The Ronald Reagan's who could put you at ease even if Russia was staring you down with nukes? Or Lee Iaccoca,
who inspired a Nation to "Buy American". It takes guts, conviction and probably a few screws loose to stand up and tell a Nation," That you will succeed with or with out them". To have the passion and the guts to stand against all odds.
What are the chances the Chrysler Corporation would find another Lee in their darkest hour?
They did. A small obscure Italian man by the name of Sergio.
Sergio, the tenacity of a Giant ,the courage of a lion and the humility of a saint.
I have followed this man quite a bit in the last six months. He has a quiet and humble spirit, BUT tells his assembly line workers if they produce a inferior product three times in a row , they are OUT! a man of conviction, a man who waited 18 months to face his dealer group until he had something of substance to tell them. Very impressive by today's standards.
I will spend my next couple of blogs laying out to you the FIAT/Chrysler plan for recovery. Whether you are an auto enthusiast, capitalist or just an American taxpayer who wants to understand the plan, I hope you will find it fascinating!
Until we meet again,
Ciao!
Lisa
